The other week I went to Rodizio Rico. Rodizio Rico – perhaps as you’d expect, is a brazilian style or ‘churascaria’ restaurant. For the uninitiated, It’s a sort of hybrid buffet style system with all you can eat spit roasted meats.
At Rodizio Rico, you go up to a buffet counter, with a great selection of hot and cold foods. There’s a whole load of cold salads, including couscous, coleslaw, olives, and all that sort of thing. There’s also an interesting selection of hot foods, including some fried plantain, caluiflower cheese, chips, cornbread, garlic bread, pinto beans, as well as a a wide selection of dipping sauces, and condiments. Having loaded up your plate, you head back to your table and wait.
Soon enough, a man carrying a large skewer of sirloin steak arrives, and carves some off onto your plates, and all of a sudden, another comes, and another, and another, and another. Sirloin, topside, beef rib, chicken thighs, chicken wings, ham, pork ribs, two different types of sausage, and leg of lamb were all brought to our table through the course of our meal, most of them more than once (you’re welcome to get more items from the buffet). Ok, Rodizio Rico isn’t a cheap eat exactly, at £23.50 a person, but you’ll certainly eat your fill, and actually, it seemed quite good value, there was no skimping on the meat, and they just kept coming round
Ok, if you want the most tender steak, or the best quality ham, this might not be the place, the beef in particular could be quite tough. But as an experience it was great. We went at 6, and whilst it was quiet when we arrived, it soon got busy, and the meat kept coming, and the buffet food was constantly replenished and tidied. All in all a great place to go for a bit of fun.
